The Truck War
There has been a war brewing for many decades, and very few manufacturers have had the pleasure of coming out on top, time and time again. The one-ton RAM 3500 returns to the lineup for 2021 as the segment's most powerful and most capable pickup, thanks to an increase in power and towing capacity. The 2021 Ram 3500 with the Cummins turbo-diesel 6.7-liter inline-six now makes 1075 lb-ft of torque, which is 75 more than last year. The mightiest version can now tow 37,090 pounds with a gooseneck hitch, an increase of 2000 pounds versus the previous model. The heavy-duty Ram's new figures leapfrog those of any truck in the industry and provide class-leading bragging rights.
Gas and Diesel Towing
With the Cummins HO and its 1000 lb-ft of torque, a Ram 3500 has a towing capacity of 37,090 pounds. When equipped with the 6.4L Hemi V-8 engine, the 2021 RAM 3500 truck can tow 18210 pounds, which is more than enough for most jobs and weekend expeditions.
Fifth Wheel Prep Group
RAM engineers went back to the drawing board to revamp the 3500's fully-boxed rails and the rear-axle structural cross-member for the fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch to accommodate the additional towing capacity. The system is integrated into the pickup box floor and includes fifth-wheel pucks, gooseneck bolt plates, and gooseneck center castings. This makes hooking up to a fifth wheel or gooseneck even easier. With the fifth wheel prep group, the standard 4/7-pin trailer connector and 7-pin connector are integrated into the rear of the truck's bed to easily wire a trailer.
Payload Capacity
The 2021 RAM 3500, with its high-strength steel frame and diesel engine, can accommodate a maximum payload of up to 6,910 pounds in its bed. At the same time, the gas motor can accommodate an impressive 7,680 pounds.
RAM Active Air Intake System
The heavier the loads, the harder a truck needs to work. The 2021 Ram 3500 has an Active Air Intake system installed. A class-exclusive, this function responds to the environment and driving conditions from the engine controller to adjust ventilation as required. In hot weather, it brings in a breeze from below the truck, while in wet or messy conditions, it's drawn from an under-hood port to make every trip as efficient as possible.
Engineered to Perform
With a vast selection of extremely capable engines to suit all needs, the 2021 RAM 3500 is engineered to perform by yielding impressive results. First on deck is the gas 6.4 Litre Hemi VVT V8 producing 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque with fuel saver displacement technology (MDS).
Next up, we have the more capable 6.7 Litre Cummins Diesel motor producing 385 horsepower and a massive 850 lb-ft of torque, and very impressive hauling and towing power figures. To top it off, the 2021 RAM 3500 features the 6.7 Litre Cummins Diesel High Output inline 6 Cylinder. This updated Cummins boats 420 horsepower and class-leading 1075 lb-ft of torque, making it the most capable RAM ever.
